Made from vines grown on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius near Naples, Lacryma Christi wine takes its name from the ancient story told by John Milton in “Paradise Lost” which tells of when Lucifer and the angels were expelled from Heaven. As soon as Lucifer was expelled, he took a piece of Heaven with him and, falling, he dropped it on the coast of Italy at the foot of Vesuvius, where he framed the bay of Naples. The story tells, that Jesus once saw this loss he cried and his tears bathed those Paradise slopes. In the place where they fell, the vines miraculously grew, becoming the vineyards from which Lacryma Christi is named.
